Cambridge, UK–based CSR and Rx Networks, Inc., headquartered in Vancouver, Canada, have announced a solution that combines their respective eGPS and GPStream technologies.

According to the companies, their joint solution combines GPS fine time and frequency aiding with synthetic assistance to yield mobile positioning performance that exceeds standard assisted-GPS (AGPS) in unsynchronized GSM and W-CDMA networks or in synchronized CDMA networks.

The solution enables mobile devices to generate the fine time, frequency aiding, and ephemeris assistance without the need for real time communication with a server, reportedly making such information available at all times. This eliminates up to 15 seconds of network latency in mobile handset applications while remaining compliant with AGPS industry standards such as SUPL 1.0, according to the companies.

Both CSR and Rx Networks operate carrier-grade service delivery infrastructures through which Rx Networks’ GPStream extended ephemeris technologies may be delivered. GPStream PGPS and SAGPS produce continuous satellite predictions while eGPS provides a locally generated source of fine time and frequency aiding.

The companies say that combining these technologies significantly reduces time to fix and increases GPS sensitivity to help maintain optimal GPS performance, even outside of network coverage.
