Mario Caporale![]() Head of satellite navigation, Agenzia Spaziale Italiana

Since 2006, systems engineer Mario Caporale has served as head of satellite navigation for the Italian space agency, Agenzia Spaziale Italiana. He represents italy on matters pertaining to Galileo nationally and internationally. Caporale is a delegate to the European Space Agency's Program Board on Satellite Navigation, an adviser to the EU Galileo Supervisory Board, and a member of the Galileo Signal Task Force. He is also a member of the EU/USA National Security Compatibility Compliance Group and the European Radio Navigation Plan Group. Previously, he cochaired the GNSS Action team of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS). Early in Galileo's development, Caporale helped analyze and define user requirements, mission requirements, and the structure of the business development organization. Before joining the space agency in 2000, Caporale worked for Telspazio SpA in Rome for 10 years, first as avionics manager and then as account manager for civil defense. He his general engineering qualification and a master's degree in nuclear electronic engineering from the University of Rome, Faculty of Engineering. |
