Registration has opened for the 22nd World Congress and Exhibition on Intelligent Transport Systems and Services to be held in Bordeaux, France, on October 5–9, 2015.

A Congress topic of note for the GNSS community is “Space Technologies and Services For ITS,” which will include discussion of GNSS positioning and timing services used by all modes of transport, and how, when combined with vehicle sensors and with vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2X) communication, future multi-constellation and multi-frequency receivers will dramatically improve positioning performance and contribute to the development of a wide range of innovative ITS applications, including:

  • hybridization of GNSS receivers with other sensors (eg video, lidar).
  • collaborative cloud-based mapping
  • reliable positioning for critical ITS services
  • solutions for regulated services (e.g., eCall, digital tachograph, dangerous goods)
  • new services from multi-constellation receivers
  • monitoring transport infrastructures using Earth observation satellites
  • traffic monitoring with infra-red cameras from satellites.

This year’s event will also include a special session on “GNSS Services and Performance Standardization Workshop” with discussion of GNSS positioning and timing services used by all modes of intelligent transport. The workshop is organized by ERTICO and the Satellite Positioning Performance Assessment for Road Transport (SaPPART) European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) Action.

High-level experts from the GNSS industry, the automotive industry, standardization organizations, and the European GNSS agency will discuss such developments as:

  • the positioning services offered by present and future global navigation satellite systems, with a specific emphasis on the coming Galileo services,
  • the necessity of certification frameworks underpinned by agreed standards for safety-critical and liability-critical applications,
  • work going on at European Committee for Standardization (CEN), the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC) and the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) on standardization of positioning performance for ITS and personal mobility and how these new standards could fill the gaps in the current existing ITS standards and regulations for positioning.

François Peyret, head of the GEOLOC Laboratory of IFSTTAR, the French Institute Of Science And Technology For Transport, Development And Networks, is coordinating the workshop.

Other associated events of particular interest to the GNSS community include “Transforming Freight Movement Through ITS,” “Use of Telematics for Dangerous Goods Transport.”

Registration can be completed through the conference website with reduced “early bird” fees until July 10.
