The sixth conference on Recent Advances in Space Technology (RAST 2013) will take place at the Harbiye Military Museum close to the Istanbul Convention Center (ICEC) in downtown Istanbul, Turkey. It will run from June 12 through June 14.

The conference covers all aspects of space technology, with a particular focus each time. This year, the emphasis is on launchers and the theme is "New Ways of Accessing Space for the Benefit of Society."

Engineers, company representatives, academicians and government officials whose organizations plan to put a satellite in orbit in the near future are especially welcome to attend.

Conference topics of particular interest to Inside GNSS readers:

  • GNSS developments, interoperability and new applications
  • satellite time and frequency transfer systems.
  • Regional positioning systems
  • Space technologies that contribute to security

Abstract submissions should consist of an extended summary of at least 500 words. They are due online by December 15, 2012.

This is the sixth conference since RAST was established in 2003. Since then, it has become a major regional event in space conferences.

It is organized by the Turkish Air Force Academy, Aeronautics and Space Technologies Institute, İstanbul Technical University, Boğaziçi University and the Middle East Technical University. Sponsors include IEEE and ISPRS.
