Applanix recently released Version 5 of its Position and Orientation System for Land Vehicles (POS LV).

According to the company, the system uses integrated inertial technology and is designed to generate stable, reliable and repeatable positioning solutions for land-based vehicle applications such as road geometry, pavement inspection, GIS database and asset management, road surveying and vehicle dynamics. The company says the unit is designed to operate under the most difficult GPS conditions in urban and suburban environments.

The unit’s POS Computer System (PCS) is half the size of the previous version, ruggedized and sealed. The system includes an inertial measurement unit (IMU), integrated Trimble BD960 GNSS receiver, a wheel-mounted distance measurement instrument (DMI) and a GPS azimuth measurement system (GAMS) with optional second GNSS receiver.

Applanix, a Trimble Company, develops, manufactures, sells and supports products and solutions for mobile mapping and positioning. Applanix’ POS are used in a variety of applications, including road profiling, GIS data acquisition, aerial surveying and mapping, railroad track maintenance and seafloor mapping.
