Sergio Greco

Sergio Greco is vice-president and general manager of the Navigation and Integrated Communications Business Unit at Thales Alenia Space in Rome. He has occupied that position for his current company and its predecessor since 2000.

The company is a joint venture between Thales Group and Finmeccanica Group and prime contractor for EGNOS, the European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service. Thales Alenia Space is a leading member of ESNI, the consortium of companies responsible for constructing Galileo.

In the 1990s, Greco served as executive program director for the Artemis telecommunications satellite from its origins to launch of the flight model. At the time, Artemis was ESA’s most advanced telecommunications satellite. In the late 1980s, He was head of the Radar Altimeter Project for ESA’s earth observation satellite, ERS-1. It was the first European satellite to carry a radar altimeter. During the early 1980s, he was program manager of the communication subsystem on the European Space Agency’s Olympus spacecraft, at the time the largest telecommunications satellite ever built.

Sergio Greco is an Italian citizen and has a degree in electronic engineering and a doctorate in applied electromagnetism from the University of Rome.
